Out and About

My brother came over for a visit today, since it's reading week at the University, and I thought it might be a nice day for a walk. Some friends of ours were nice enough to loan us their double jogger. I think the boys liked it pretty well, until the cold got to their poor little hands they refused to keep under the blanket.

It didn't help that Lincoln couldn't keep his hands off the bag of cookies we brought along to munch on...

Yummy Yams, Mommy!

So the boys started in on solids last week. I decided to not start with cereal and instead opted for veggies high in vitamins and fats. These I'm making myself and man am I glad when the healthier choice is cheap and easy!

First we tested Avacados. I blended them with some breastmilk and froze them in a Tupperware ice cube tray. This I did cuz it comes with a lid.

Since this was their first food, I wasn't sure if the faces were from something new, or from the Avacado itself, but I kept going and they kept eating. No outright refusals or rejections which I took as a good sign.

Next we moved on to Sweet Potato, which they seemed to enjoy more. Austin even grunted in displeasure when I wasn't quick enough to feed him.

Up next: bananas!

Happy 6 Months, Little Men!

I'm forewarning you: I've become very bad at keeping up with the photos! The following is fuzzy, but you get the idea...

Well here we are, at 6 months. I both embrace and fear it. I'm not about to say it passed in the blink of an eye, because I can see where the 6 months went, but although I don't feel it's "too fast" I wish their littleness lasted a little longer. The doc gave the okay for solid foods, and from there there's no going back. At least when I'm their sole food source, they're still my babies. But here we go, they're gaining indepedance and strength and that means they're breaking away from me. As excited as I am at their good health and progress, I have a little mourning to do...

But enough whining, here they are at 6 months:

Austin: 12lbs, 15oz. 64 cm
Lincoln: 12lbs, 12oz. 62 cm
That's right! Where there was once a 2lb gap, Lincoln has successfully closed it to 3oz. And he's got the cutest little fat roles on his legs. Way to go!! It was a team effort tho, Austin's slowing down and waiting for Lincoln to catch up, like a good big brother :)

Movements:
They're both rolling from their fronts to their back. When turn from back to front tho, they both stop at their sides and need a little push to be on the their front.
Sitting up while assisted.
Grabbing at their toes.
Giggles of laughter, tho this is few and far between. I found Lincoln's legs to be tickling, but in my excitment, I've left some bruises. Oops!
grabbing at toys and examining them.
Watch the cars go by out the window.
Sleeping 11-12 hours at night.
Respond to their names.
Stuffing anything and everything into their mouths!
So many more things, but I don't want to bore you.

Happy Birthday, Austin and Lincoln, you're both doing so well and I'm so proud of you :)

Myers Family Christmas

Well, I have to say our first Christmas as our own family unit was wonderful! Here are a few highlights:

Christmas Eve was spent at my Aunt Marlene's house where there was turkey dinner and Grandpa's Soup. All members of the 4th generation were there and we got a picture with all of them. My cousin Ryan and his wife Marcie also have twin boys, Connor and Caleb, who are now 8 years old; they're the ones holding our twins. Then there's my brother's kids, Isabella and Donovan, in the middle.

After a wonderful night of fun, food and laughter, Miles and I went home and put the boys to bed way too late. But that's was special occasions are for, right?

Christmas morning we got up with boys and after they were fed we opened our presents. This may be the only year I get to open up all the presents, so I enjoyed myself :) We're not very avid picture takers, so this is the only one we took of Christmas morning. These are blankets Grams made for the boys.

I also got the boys Texas Longhorn shirts they can wear to support Miles' favorite college football team. So Boxing Day, we had clones wandering all around!

We went out to the time share my parents have up in Canmore and Miles and I took advantage of the boys having a nap and extra family around to go for a hike. It's been a long time since I've done snow angels, and man did it ever feel good!

The weather was so nice. We need to get out the mountains and enjoy winter a little more!

The rest of the day was spent with my family playing games and having a good time, just as the holidays should be.

Hope the rest of you had a Merry Christmas, and I wish you all Happy New Year!

Eww, Gross!!!

Note to self:

Remember to put a cloth that can absorbe spit-up on the play mat. That way it will NOT get all over your kids face when hes on his belly and puts his face down...

Thank goodness Austin is patient with me.
