Sweet Moments

I'm going to take a minute here and brag. I have a lot to brag about, but I'll keep it to one thing: how amazing and wonderful Miles is with his boys. I love witnessing the tenderness and love and joy that comes oozing out of him everytime he sees them.

He and Austin have been playing this game where Dad will hide and I'll say "where's Daddy?" Austin will look all around and then his face will light up as his vision connects with Dad's.
Miles will change his position and pop up in different places and it's amazing to see Austin search the room, and even lean over to peek around the couch. He sure loves his Dad.

(But really, his smile is bigger, his eyes sparklier and he even scrunches his nose the way I do. It looks better on him than it does me...)

The exciting interactions are fun and wonderful, and then I see a quiet, tender moment such as this that just melts my heart.

I wish we had endless pockets of money so that we both can stay at home and watch the boys grow and hang out with them, cuz they are so much fun! But then again, there would be no reason for them to be excited to see him if he never left. They keep their eyes on the front door after he leaves for work, and nothing has ever made my heart so sad nor so happy to see that they miss their Dad and notice that he's gone.

Thank you, sweetheart, for all that you do and for being such a great Dad. I couldn't have given my boys any better than you.

The Perfect Picture

Do you ever see a great face and you wish you could capture it to show the world?

Austin, although very stoic in the beginning, has become quite the charmer. He'll be playing along, having a great time, and suddenly he looks up at me and gives me this winning smile! I tried to capture it, and thank goodness he was patient with me, because the snap on my camera is a little delayed and we had to do several retakes.

Obviously photography is not my forte. Observe:

First...

and then...

wait for it...

with a little editing....

and finally!!!

Isn't he amazing?

This Generation Might Never Learn to Print

So my sister and her husband came over one afternoon so I could go out and run some errands unincumbered. A treat indeed! Austin was asleep at the time so Lincoln got spoiled with one-on-one attention from two people at the same time. What a lucky kid!

When I got back, there were reports that he had a great time with Cory's iPad and here is the evidence:

Really, Uncle Cory,
are you sure you want me to play with your iPad?

This is even more fun than you said it would be!

I don't think anything will get past this little guy, and I'm going to have to get over my aversion to fancy technology if I want them to survive in this day in age...

Out and About

My brother came over for a visit today, since it's reading week at the University, and I thought it might be a nice day for a walk. Some friends of ours were nice enough to loan us their double jogger. I think the boys liked it pretty well, until the cold got to their poor little hands they refused to keep under the blanket.

It didn't help that Lincoln couldn't keep his hands off the bag of cookies we brought along to munch on...

Yummy Yams, Mommy!

So the boys started in on solids last week. I decided to not start with cereal and instead opted for veggies high in vitamins and fats. These I'm making myself and man am I glad when the healthier choice is cheap and easy!

First we tested Avacados. I blended them with some breastmilk and froze them in a Tupperware ice cube tray. This I did cuz it comes with a lid.

Since this was their first food, I wasn't sure if the faces were from something new, or from the Avacado itself, but I kept going and they kept eating. No outright refusals or rejections which I took as a good sign.

Next we moved on to Sweet Potato, which they seemed to enjoy more. Austin even grunted in displeasure when I wasn't quick enough to feed him.

Up next: bananas!
